Radio One Communications news honored
Radio One Communications News Director Laura Waluszko received three awards in recent statewide news contests.
Waluszko received a First Place for Best Radio Newscast, News Departments of Fewer Than Five Full-Time Staff including News Director, from the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Waluszko also received a second place award for Best Radio Spot News (coverage of an unplanned news event), News Departments of Fewer Than Five Full-Time Staff including News Director, for a report on an earthquake that shook Northwest Indiana in 2004. The awards, based on work done in 2004, were presented in Indianapolis on April 29, 2005.
Waluszko has also received an Honorable Mention for Best Newscast in the 2004 Network Indiana News and Sports Contest. The Network Indiana awards are being presented May 20th at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Waluszko received the First Place Best Newscast award from Network Indiana for four out of five years (1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003), receiving honorable mention in the newscast category for 2001.
Other previous honors include the 2001 First Place Best Radio Newscast, News Departments of Fewer Than Five Full-Time Staff from the Society of Professional Journalists Indiana Professional Chapter, and First Place Best Radio Newscast, Medium Market, 2001 and 1999 from the Indiana Broadcasters Association.
Waluszko is news director/anchor for Radio One Communications’ four stations, Indiana 105 (WLJE-FM), X-Rock 103.9 (WXRD-FM), Z-107.1 (WZVN-FM), and AM-1500 (WAKE-AM). She has been with the company since 1996.
